Using the Big Email utility

The Big Email utility allows you to send or receive very large e-mail attachments without having to go through the standard mail client software. Sending large e-mail attachments to others often causes problems with mailbox quotas, client software and can cause lost mail on the recipient's end. As long as either the recipient or the sender of the large e-mail has a uthscsa.edu domain account, this service can be used by anyone, which includes outside users who would like to send UTHSCSA affiliates a large e-mail document. Instead of filling up your mailbox, this utility will store the large document on the web server, and send the recipient a web link that the recipient can click on to download the large file to their personal computer. The large file will automatically be purged after 3 days. Therefore, it is important that all mail sent with this utility is retrieved before that time frame. There is currently a maximum file size of 100 MB, but this can be extended, if needed. Contact the administrator if you need to send a larger file. One restriction requires that the filename of the document you are sending does not contain any spaces. The Big Email utility does NOT check the contents of your file and does NOT check for viruses. This also means that zip files containing documents that are normally quarantined by the University e-mail system can pass through with this utility. It is the user's responsibility to make sure no viruses or malware are transmitted or allowed to infect your computer. Always scan your documents for viruses when you download them from the web, if you are running Windows operating software. To use the system, click the Browse... button to search for your large document to send to the recipient. Enter your own e-mail address, and that of the recipient. Then click Send to submit the message.
